Uncle Robby Scholarship Information

January 28, 2008

Applicants for the “Uncle Robby Internship Program” are being solicited to award a minimum of two (2) - $1000.00, paid summer community internships, co-sponsored by the Sacramento Asian Sports Foundation and the Sacramento Sports Commission. This program has been launched in memory of Robert “Robby” Nakamura who not only gave of himself to many community volunteer programs but encouraged a large cross section of young people to be the best that they could be.

This paid internship will involve a supervised placement with one or both of the sponsoring organizations for a period of 6 weeks, approximately 15 – 20 hours per week, for a total of 100 hours during the Summer of 2008. Applicants will need to take into consideration any extended vacations, studies abroad, other summer activities or summer jobs that may conflict with the responsibilities of  the required 100 total hours of the internship program. Internship hours are very flexible and both organizations will work with the selected internship recipients as much as reasonably possible.

The intent of this program is to support and to encourage a high school student entering into his/her senior year with a meaningful community work experience in hopes to assist in enhancing their applications for college entrance and also to provide life lessons about giving back to the community.

Grade Requirement – For students entering their senior year of HS during the

08 – 09 school year, with plans to further their education by attending college after HS graduation.

A selection committee will review all applications received by March 30, 2008. Recipients will be notified by May 15, 2008. Please refer to the attached application for the details required.
